Eye health tips

These simple tips will help you take care of your eyes and have a greater awareness of the correct visual habits to keep your eyesight healthy .

COMPUTER USE
Spending many hours in front of the computer can strain your eyes because the monitor light is unnatural.

If you work on the computer for a long time you should:

  • position yourself in front of the screen at a distance of 50 to 80 cm (the larger the screen, the greater the distance);
  • use the glasses prescribed by the ophthalmologist for this activity;
  • take a 15 minute break every two hours (or five minutes every three quarters of an hour), trying to look at distant objects, at a distance of at least six meters: this allows the eyes to rest. Take advantage of it to relieve tensions in your shoulders and neck!
  • avoid reflections on the screen, which make reading difficult: generally the monitor should be placed at 90 degrees to the natural light source or, in any case, in such a way that the readability is optimal.
  • try to dry frequently with the eyelids to avoid dry eyes , or use artificial tears, especially useful if you wear contact lenses.

IN FRONT OF THE TV

The correct distance to watch TV is at least 6 times the diagonal of the screen.
TV should not be watched too long to avoid visual fatigue.

SUN GLASSES

During sun exposure it is good to protect the eyes with UV certified lenses to avoid injuries that can be dangerous.

SUPPLY

Even the eyes , like the rest of the body, benefit from a balanced diet , rich in the vitamin intake of fruit and vegetables, with little alcohol and unsaturated fats. Smoking should be completely avoided.

REST

During the day, even if you may not notice it, the eyes work a lot, and almost without ever stopping. To help them you can:

  • sleep at least 7 - 8 hours per night in complete darkness;
  • look away whenever you can, for as long as possible;
  • blinking frequently ( often closing and opening the eyelids);
  • offer beautiful images and open spaces to the eyes.

PALMING

This simple exercise can also be done several times during the day, and can give great relief in times of eye strain.

Do this by covering your eyes with your cupped hands and staying in this position, relaxing your eyes and mind, for 5-10 minutes.

CONTACT LENSES

They should not be worn for more than 6-8 hours a day , and above all they must be removed before going to sleep or bathing.

The cleaning is essential to prevent more serious infections and diseases. If you see red eyes or if they hurt, stop using the lenses until the ophthalmologist tells you to avoid complications (such as keratitis). Have your eyes checked regularly once a year.

CONTROLS

Unless otherwise prescribed, a check every 2 years helps to monitor the health of your eyes and the quality of your vision.
